Solar Halo Seen in Bicol, Philippines

I have been browsing my Facebook a while ago and noticed that there are a lot of Facebook posts showing the sun and a ring around it. Then I asked myself, what’s happening outside? I went to the corridor of the building I am staying right now here at Embarcadero de Legazpi, then I captured the following photos.

This condition is called 22° halo. Accordingly, it is an optical phenomenon produced by ice crystals forming colored or white spots in the sky. It is called 22° halo because it forms a circle 22° around the sun.

It is recently visible throughout Bicol region today. It is beautifully seen outside. Well, you really need to take care looking at it with your eyes. Yeah, looking at it, you really have to shield both of your eyes from the sun.

Don't risk your eyesight no matter how beautiful it is. I tried capturing it looking directly at the sky and it’s not good. I just captured it using the phone with a timer on it, just to have those shots. It is really true that when photographing halos, it is dangerous to look at the sun through camera viewfinders. That’s why don’t risk it.
