Lyca Gairanod, Hailed as The Voice Kids PH Grand Champion

Sunday, July 28, 2014, Lyca Gairanod of Team Sarah Geronimo was declared as The Voice Kids Philippines first grand champion at the Newport Performing Arts Theater in Resorts World Manila. The nine-year-old kid won the competition battling out 3 other contestants, was one of the early favorite of the crowd since the competition started. She also touched many viewers of her story who used to scavenge junks in Cavite.


Finishing 2nd was Darren Espanto, the total performer also from Team Sarah who used to be Pinoy Singing Sensation winner in 2011 and one of the Top 6 of YTV's The Next Star in 2012 in Canada. Coming up in 3rd place was Juan Karlos "JK" Labajo, the charming kid of Team Bamboo and 4th place was Darlene Vibares, the girl on fire Team Lea.

Aside from the title, Gairanod also won a P1-Million cash prize, a recording contract with MCA Universal, a house and lot from Camella Homes, a musical instrument showcase and home appliance package.

The Final Performances

Saturday, the first part of the finale included 2 challenges for the finalists. The first was the Power Ballad challenge where JK sang "Yesterday," Darlene with "Sana'y Wala Nang Wakas," Darren with "Ngayon," and Lyca with "Narito Ako." On the 2nd challenge, the Upbeat Song, JK sang "Runaway Baby," Darlene with "Louder," Darren with "Somebody To Love," and Lyca with "Call Me Maybe."

On Sunday, the competition gets even more exciting as the kids sing with the superstars. Juan Karlos sang "Eto Na Naman" with Mr. Pure Energy, Gary Valenciano. Darlene performed with Asia's Nightingale, Lani Misalucha singing "You Don't Have To Say You Love Me." Darren together with the Concert King, Martin Nievera sang "You Are My Song." Lyca performed with the iconic OPM group, Aegis with their song "Basang-basa sa Ulan."

As the competition happened on the Final show, the fans and viewers took the social media for them to raise their reactions to the show. "Congrats Lyca" became trending in twitter together with #TVKDarrenForTheChampion, #WowAngGwapoNiLuis #DarrenDontLeaveThePhilippines, #ManaloMataloDarrenPaRinKami, worldwide. Most trending hashtags worldwide also showed the support of the many for Lyca's runner-up, Darren Espanto.


The show may have ended for now, but one thing's for sure- the chances for these kids to shine even brighter only begins now. For those who haven't made it winning the competition, is an opportunity for other doors for them to open.

Later this year, the competition for The Voice of the Philippines continues as the 2nd season for the Adult's edition is expected to start.
